Urumqi - The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has agreed to carry out preliminary work on a coal-to-gas demonstration project in Jundong, Xinjiang, marking the official approval of the country's largest coal-to-gas project and entering the stage of full implementation.

It is understood that the construction scale of the coal-to-gas demonstration project in the eastern region of Jungdong is 30 billion cubic meters/year, matching the scale of Sinopec's "New Yuezhe" pipeline (gas transmission capacity of 30 billion cubic meters/year). The project is jointly constructed by China Petroleum & Chemical Co., LTD., Huaneng Xinjiang Energy Development Co., LTD., Xinjiang Longyu Energy Zhundong Coal Chemical Co., LTD and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. The estimated total investment of the project is 183 billion yuan, and after completion, it will achieve annual sales revenue of 55 billion yuan, directly solve about 18,000 jobs, and consume 90 million tons of coal annually.

The relevant person in charge of the Energy Department of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Development and Reform Commission said that the preliminary work of the Zhundong coal-to-gas demonstration project has laid a solid foundation for the construction of the Zhundong region into a national coal deep processing comprehensive demonstration zone. At the same time, it will further accelerate the development and transformation of Xinjiang's rich coal resources and ensure China's natural gas supply.

Located in the Hui Autonomous Prefecture of Changji, Xinjiang Province, the eastern region of Jungdong has the largest and most abundant integrated coal field in China, with the predicted reserves of 390 billion tons and the proven reserves of 213.6 billion tons. In November last year, a state-level economic and technological development zone was officially established in Jundong, Xinjiang, to build a national strategic energy development comprehensive reform pilot zone.
